Vinayagar Chaturthi is celebrated to worship and honour the elephant-headed god, Ganesh. He is the younger son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Ganesha is a Hindu idol god, also called as Vinayaka and Ganapathi. Chaturthi means "fourth day" or "fourth state". A life-like clay model of Lord Ganesha is made 2-3 months prior to the day of Ganesh Chaturthi.
